5 Reasons Florida Coastal Homeowners Select DaVinci Slate

Delray Beach, Florida, is about an hour north of Miami. They share the same beautiful oceanfront views and sunny weather. They also share the same high probability for storms and hurricanes. That’s just one of five reasons why homeowners Janet Soderberg and Robert Lewis recently had a Miami-Dade approved composite slate roof from DaVinci installed on their home.

Reason #1: Severe Weather and High-Wind Resistant

Living just blocks from the ocean, the stunning Mediterranean style home belonging to Soderberg and Lewis has already been through three hurricanes. So, when their old barrel tile roof started leaking recently, they knew it was time for a change.

“We get winds anywhere from 100 to 120 miles an hour here,” says Lewis. “It’s really nice to know that our new DaVinci roof is made to handle high winds and really severe weather.”

DaVinci tiles are crafted from a composite material made of virgin resins, UV and thermal stabilizers. There’s also a highly specialized fire retardant added to the formula. The result is a state-of-the-art tile that endures beautifully in any climate while resisting Mother Nature’s fury.

Reason #2: Salt-Air Resistant and Easy Care

According to Lewis, the homeowners learned of DaVinci products from Walsh Roofing.

“We decided on DaVinci composite slate because it was the only company producing a tile that looks like natural slate with so many test-worthy benefits,” says Lewis. “In addition, we like the idea of minimal maintenance for the roofing.

“We live very close to the ocean. We love this composite roof because it resists salt air and sea spray. It will not have mold or algae growing on it. Those are factors that are very important to us.”

Reason #3: Aesthetics

When Soderberg and Lewis decided it was time for a new roof, they wanted to “shake up” the look of their home exterior.

“I presented many tile options to the homeowners to match the existing installation,” says Mike Walsh, president of Walsh Roofing out of Palm City, FL. “However, once they said they wanted a different look, I brought DaVinci into the conversation. When they saw the DaVinci Multi-Width Slate option in Castle Gray they were sold.”

But it was more than just switching to a composite slate that makes this project special. The homeowners love the color blue. So Walsh recommended adding blue accents, including aluminum standing seam panels for the entryway, garage and bell tower.

“The blue metal roof areas really accent the gray slate roofing,” says Walsh. “It also plays beautifully with the new light blue paint on the exterior stucco on their home.”

Reason #4: Adding Value

The transforming change of DaVinci’s Miami-Dade approved composite slate roof to the home’s exterior is more than just cosmetic. The homeowners also added impact-resistant windows to help make their home even more “hurricane-proof.” All the changes have added strong value to the house.

“I’m a real estate agent,” says Lewis. “I feel that all the work we’ve done probably adds at least $300,000 in value to this property.

“When people drive up to our house their first impression is that we have a very high-end Italian villa. We love that fact. In reality, it’s a beautiful fortress constructed with products that will stand up against all types of weather.”

Reason #5: Eye-Catching Home

The new roof is such a tremendous change from the old barrel tiles that Soderberg and Lewis laugh when friends accidentally pass by.

“They may have been here a dozen times in the past, but they don’t recognize the house anymore,” says Lewis. “In addition, because we live on Ocean Highway, this is a high pedestrian area. Every weekend hundreds of people walk past our home. Whenever we’re outside people always stop and comment on the beauty of the house. They remark on how the new roof has really changed and upgraded the look of our home.

“We couldn’t agree more. We’ve already recommended Walsh Roofing to friends of ours. Similarly, we’ve recommended DaVinci Roofscapes. Together these two are a winning combination!”
